Thunder Chickens Safety Course

This season we hosted two safety classes as there was more demand than classes available.  Between the two classes we certified close to 80 students.  The Certified Instructors were David Rouleau,Mark Reaves, Pam Massey and Kevin Collins.  Thanks to Washington County Sheriff Dept and BT EMS for helping with law enforcement and trailside emergency chapters.  Also thanks to Barre Town School for use of their facility, Subway of Barre and Domino's pizza for providing our lunches and Montpelier Rec. Dept for assisting us with pre-registration.  Also to the "behind the scenes" crew that help make things run smoothly, Jillian and Kristin Rouleau, Dana Robinson, Leslie Newton.  Thanks to the parents/students in the group sharing information and making these some of the most interactive course to date.  Congratulations to all and we look forward to seeing you on the trails.   Please contact David at 476-7732 to inquire about home study options and having the test administered by a certified instructor.    Check back next fall for class offerings for the 2010-2011 season.

The Class is free of charge and the club will provide you lunch.
Classes are limited to the first 40 students and adults are welcome to attend. Anyone born after July 1, 1983 must obtain certification before operating on the VAST Trail system. For More Information please call David 802-371-1279

Individuals 12 years of age or older, must have taken a certified safety course
and carry that certification with them to be presented upon demand of a law enforcement officer.

Individuals 12 years of age, but not yet sixteen years of age, must be directly supervised
by an adult, at least 18 years of age, while traveling across or on a plowed public highway.

Children eight years of age, but not yet 12, may operate a snowmobile on the VAST
trail system without taking the safety course as long as they are under the
direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian who accepts full liability for the child's actions
and the child is not allowed to operate on or across a plowed public right-of-way.

Children under the age of eight may not operate a snowmobile on the VAST trail system at any time.
